Stephen Buehler grew up in Flourtown, a suburb of Philadelphia where he participated in the normal kid stuff; flashlight tag, kick the can, throwing snowballs at passing cars and then running like hell to get away. He graduated from Springfield High School as President of his class and spent the next 10 years at Gettysburg College. Okay, it was only 4 years but it felt like 10. It was there that Stephen decided to pursue his dream of writing for film and television.
He was accepted into the Gray Film Atelier, a small film school in Hoosick Falls, NY, where after a year of writing, directing and editing short films he was voted MVP. He spent the next couple of years in Philadelphia working at various small film production companies and at Wanamakers Department store in the sporting goods, toy and housewares departments.
After some soul searching Stephen decided to make the big move to Los Angeles where he could follow his goal of being a writer. After finding only sporadic low level production jobs, Stephen found steady employment in the world of advertising. During that period in Stephen’s life he also dabbled as a magician and a stand-up comic becoming the steady MC of the Flying Handelmans. He has been on 8 mystery cruises and no, it’s wasn’t a mystery as to where his destination was. He traveled to Mexico and the many islands of the Caribbean to discover which one of his fellow passengers was the murderer in their mystery game. He wrote a travel article about his adventures, MURDER ON THE HIGH SEAS, for WESTWAYS MAGAZINE.
Since 1996, Stephen has owned and run his own business, ReWriteDr, where he is a story and script consultant. He loves working with writers at all levels and finds great pleasure in helping others achieve their goals and dreams. His short fiction has been published on websites such as, Six Word Stories and Flashshot. His short story, NOT MY DAY, in the anthology, LAST EXIT TO MURDER, is his first traditionally published piece of mystery writing.
He has completed a mystery/comedy PI novel, DETECTIVE RULES; where Guy Graff, a 27 year old detective, who looks like he’s 18 so nobody takes him seriously, witnesses his first two clients killed while shopping in Beverly Hills – and worst yet, before they have paid him a dime. THE MINDREADING MURDERS, a novella in the Micheal Black Magician series will be published in 2015. Stephen is a member of Mystery Writers of America and Sisters In Crime.
